Get to Know Applegate! #autism #autismdiet

It’s that time again! Let’s get your week started out right and Get to Know Applegate!  Here at Autism Hope Alliance (AHA), we would not be where we are without the incredible support of our amazing partners. In this series, we check in with some of our partners to bring you their latest news, as well as ask some frequently asked questions.

We love Applegate. Just ask our AHA President, Kristin. Her kiddo Jaxson loves their hot dogs and just about everything else! At Applegate, they are committed to changing the meat we eat. All natural and organic. No antibiotics, growth hormones, artificial ingredients or chemical nitrites. Humanely raised, and gluten-free options.

Founded in 1987, we’ve been thrilled to partner with Applegate and wanted to check in with their Manager of Communications and Strategic Relationships, Le-La Cloutier, to learn more about the brand and find out why their products are some of the best on the market.

AHA: What makes organic and all-natural meat better than conventional meat?

Le-La: From animal living conditions to ingredient statements, organic and natural meats are held to higher standards than conventional meat. Depending on who you ask, natural can also take on a variety of definitions and criteria.  But to Applegate, natural means that we source our meat from farms where animals are raised humanely without antibiotics, hormones or growth promotants. It also means we don’t add chemical nitrites, nitrates, phosphates, artificial ingredients, or preservatives to our products.

AHA: What kind of a diet do your animals eat?

Le-La: Our animals are fed an all-vegetarian or pasture-centered diet… never animal by-products. Our cattle are raised on pasture their entire lives, meaning our beef products are 100 percent grass-fed.

AHA: Are there benefits to eating organic meats?

Le-La: We believe eating organic has benefits for humans, as well as the environment. With organic farming, harmful chemicals and antibiotics are prohibited, which supports efforts to improve soil health and human health. Antibiotic-resistance is an issue Applegate has long supported, and we’re proud to say that we never source meat (natural or organic) from an animal that was administered antibiotics.

AHA: What are some of your products suitable for a gluten-free/dairy-free diet?

Le-La: Hot dogs, chicken nuggets, deli meats, and breakfast sausages are just a few of our products that are gluten-free/dairy-free. Applegate makes more than 65 Autism Approved products so there’s something for everyone! You can find a full list of gluten-free/dairy-free products on our website.
